LGBTQIA+ Pride is coming to Girls on Fire!

Originally designed to celebrate SydneyWorld Pride 2023 and it’s arrival in Australia, Girls on Fire are running the 1-day Rainbow Community Fire and Resilience Programs on 20 or 21 June 2023 as part of Pride Month.

The first and only of it’s kind to be held in Australia, the Rainbow Community Fire and Resilience Program will be setting the Northern Beaches aflame in June.

In conjunction with Northern Beaches council, we have confirmed two 1-day programs to run on 20th and 21st June 2023!

The Rainbow Community Fire and Resilience Program aims to:

Engage with LGBTQIA+ youth via a tailored program led by LGBTQIA+ community mentors and foster a sense of community through visibility, inclusion and teamwork.

Introduce participants to concepts related to fire, disaster and emergency management, giving them the know-how to prevent, prepare for and participate in management effectively.

Bridge the gap between the LGBTQIA+ community and frontline personnel in a fun, interactive and supportive way. All through sharing commonality of experience.

Emphasise belonging in the emergency service family on a vocational and/or volunteer level while demonstrating the value of diversity in a positive way.

Instill a sense of resilience, achievement and uncover the power within each participant through a variety of different activities and simulations.

Meet more young people where they live in a world dominated by natural disasters and climate change – and give them hope for the future through practical action.

The Rainbow Community Fire and Resilience Program was made possible by a Community Development Grant courtesy of Northern Beaches Council, the program also offers Girls on Fire to introduce fire and disaster preparedness, prevention, management and recovery to the youth of the area in a fun, interactive and practical way.

As part of the commitment to enabling communities, Girls on Fire also welcomes the support of local youth outreach program, GLAM+. The GLAM+ program works with young people to help spread the message of inclusion for young people with diverse genders and sexualities on the Northern Beaches.
